Low GPU usage in games with RTX 2080
Low GPU usage in games with RTX 2080
About two months ago, my computer setup was as follows:
AMD R7 2700x
Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB
16GB DDR4 RAM at 2400mhz
ASUS Prime X470 Pro Motherboard
650W Corsair 650M Power Supply
One day while playing a game, my graphics card suddenly stopped functioning. I wasn’t sure what caused it—just midway through the game, the screen went dark and the card became unresponsive. I hadn’t performed any overclocking, there were no power surges in the house, and even when connected to a friend’s system, nothing worked.
I had intended to begin gaming at 1440p and wanted to upgrade my graphics card anyway, so I decided to buy an RTX 2080.
The issues began after receiving the RTX 2080. Here are my current specifications:
AMD R7 2700x
Gigabyte RTX 2080
16GB DDR4 RAM at 2400mhz
ASUS Prime X470 Pro Motherboard
650W Corsair 650M Power Supply
Recently, while playing games like BF1, Anthem, State of Decay 2, Final Fantasy XV, Skyrim, and The Witcher 3 (just examples to avoid specifics), I observed that my GPU was only operating at about 45%-60% capacity. Even though I’m still running in 1080p, when using the Nvidia DSR settings, I set my resolution to around 1440p and continued experiencing the same problem.
Additionally, I noticed that CPU utilization varied depending on the game, but it wasn’t consistently high. My initial assumption was a RAM-related issue, though I’m considering upgrading to faster RAM as a potential fix.
I would appreciate any advice regarding this situation, especially since games sometimes drop to extremely low frame rates, and I’m puzzled about why my GPU remains stuck at such a low utilization level.
This might be expected, but did you install the exact driver for the 2080 after you changed it?
