hello i'm having an issue where my gpu usage stays low (40-60%) in five games, which causes me to see low fps.
my setup is:
- 3070 ti
- 5600x resolution
- b 450 f gaming
- 32gb ram

my friend tested the same setup and got 99% gpu usage with 20-40 fps higher.
his specs are:
- 3060
- i5 12400f
- 16gb ram

it's frustrating, can you help me out?

What is your power supply? Also, when the GPU usage is between 40 and 60%, what is your CPU usage? Any adjustments in the Nvidia control panel to set your maximum frame rate?

What is the resolution you use? And your friend?

psu is ssr 650gb with cpu usage at 70. Default settings are configured for nvidia.

His GPU lacks sufficient power, forcing it to operate more intensely, which leads to increased resource usage. Your CPU struggles with single-thread tasks, so a game optimized for CPU performance won’t display the same frame rate. For testing, try running cpu-Z and check the single-thread score. You should observe around 624, similar to the 12400 which would be closer to 700. Be mindful of how Task Manager reports CPU usage, as Windows distributes the workload across all threads. Therefore, a single-threaded, CPU-bound game might appear to use only 25% of all threads on a quad-core system, making it harder to identify the true bottleneck. Averages can be deceptive; the situation is more nuanced. A game might switch between CPU and graphics constraints. If possible, use Task Manager/Performance mode to view logical processors—recent updates suggest that on Intel platforms, a single task is now assigned to one logical processor for improved efficiency. Previous designs likely spread processing for thermal reasons.

What issue are you aiming to resolve?
You don't need to be exceptionally skilled.
Usually, it's not ideal for the GPU or CPU to operate at full capacity.
That would indicate the hardware lacks a buffer and becomes a bottleneck.

It's typical for my GPU to operate between 70-90% during games. I see videos showing similar CPU and GPU usage with the GPU running at 90-99%.
