With XMP enabled, the CPU experiences spikes to full capacity right after logging into Windows Specs 3080 i9-10900K Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Pro AX. The Corsair AIO H115i and Samsung 980 SSD are compatible with XMP, but the RAM sets don’t work. Removing XMP doesn’t cause spikes, yet performance drops to lower speeds. Formatting for Windows 10 and 11 didn’t change the issue. Resetting CMOS also fails to resolve it. Any suggestions? If the problem stems from a faulty CPU or motherboard, what upgrades would be suitable?

It was functioning properly before, and it seems to have been using a more recent BIOS version. Are you referring to full system performance or just the clock speed?

Used fully in the task manager, yet no details about which app or service was running. Only changed the BIOS to rule out that possibility, but I was running two older versions since building around two years ago.

Ensure full usage is being reached at all times. Open Task Manager, filter by CPU activity, and identify the source. Then adjust Power Plans in Windows to determine if the problem lies with scheduling.

ram speeds don't hold the same weight as you might believe; for performance, the key is running in "dual channel" rather than focusing on rank. nothing is faulty, some processors avoid certain ram types—this is typical. just turn off xmp, you won’t lose anything, and your system should likely feel more responsive without it. p.s.: for the 100% cpu, another factor might be at play. consider leaving xmp off and see how it performs.

Hey team! To address everyone’s concerns – XMP performed smoothly for years, but at 100% CPU usage it only caused minor hiccups. I noticed micro stutters in Windows before launching anything, and my USB devices would disconnect and reconnect unexpectedly. Once I turned off XMP, the PC became fully functional again on the next boot. The Task Manager didn’t show much CPU usage, so it’s likely not the OS itself causing the problems. It looks like the controller might be affected, possibly due to power plan settings or other hardware quirks. Tryed different power plans without success.
