Low frame rate in Team Fortress 2 with GTX 970 graphics card

My system runs a GTX 970 with an i7 4790k, 8GB RAM, and a 144Hz Asus display. I’m experiencing around 80fps in TF2 on Valve servers. After using MSI Afterburner, it seems GPU usage is low, hovering between 10-20%. The monitor is set to 1080p with most settings off or mixed, V-sync disabled.

Consider lowering your TF2 graphics settings. Your 960 setup with a 1080p display struggles with maximum performance, while your friend’s 660 runs smoothly. Graphics can be quite unpredictable in games.

Your 860K and GTX 960 are more than sufficient for that game. It might be your Nvidia configuration or there could be some malware interfering.

Everything works perfectly for me, no issues at all. The latest drivers are running smoothly, and my 970 is already boosted, consistently hitting over 200fps.

I just tried it out and saw about 15% CPU and 60% GPU usage at the highest settings. Max was around 300 FPS, but it feels like a cap. The i7-4790k is running fine, and reinstalling drivers seems like a good idea.

Sure, the engine limits itself to 300 frames per second by default, and removing that restriction would raise the maximum FPS.
