Hi All,
I’m trying to figure this out and need some expert help. My AMD 7800x3d with 7900XT GPU was working fine until this morning when the screen went blank. I had to unplug it and restart twice to fix it. After replacing the chipset and GPU drivers, the issue stopped. The PC seems normal until I start a game, then FPS drops to between 3 and 15 even in COD menus.

I borrowed my brother’s 6800 to check—no match. I’ve tried removing RAM one stick at a time to rule out memory problems. A virus scan found something, but it was removed; the fault still exists, so it wasn’t the main cause.

Looking at Task Manager: CPU is running at around 40-50% frequency, RAM usage is about 45%. On GPU diagnostics, GPU 0 is at 100%, but GPU 1 is almost zero—this seems normal if it’s not being pushed hard.

I’m stuck and hoping someone can give me a clearer answer.

Hey there,
Which operating systems are you using? You can verify this with CPU-z.
Have you checked your RAM, to ensure it's functioning correctly? Run mentest86+ outside of Windows and observe any errors.
Did you modify any power plans? Are there any third-party tools you use for managing CPU performance?

Hi, thank you for the update. I'm almost sure the RAM is fine since I checked both sticks separately and it's highly unlikely they failed simultaneously. No adjustments to the power plan or any third-party software were made. The system is running MOBO as ASRock PG Lightning with BIOS 3.01.AS01 - AMD AGESA comboAM5PI 1.1.7.0, using the latest recommended chipset and GPU drivers that have been functioning well for several weeks.

Check if the IGP is active. If it is, consider temporarily turning it off to observe if games still attempt to run on it.

I have to admit, it has resolved the problem. The games still have occasional drops or stutters, but the FPS is back up. I’ll look into the stutter; I’m still confused about what caused it. I’ve kept the IPG setting on auto-detect for six months without any issues, and it’s been over four to five weeks since the last driver updates. I don’t know why I now need to turn it off completely. Thanks a lot for your help.

I recommend installing the newest video card drivers and then using DDU to remove all existing drivers before reinstalling. This might fix the issue. I think there could be a setting in Windows display options that you should adjust, but I’d try the drivers first. You shouldn’t need to turn off the IGP for things to function correctly.
