Low FPS in older titles
Low FPS in older titles
Hey there, I’m really struggling with a frustrating issue – my frame rates are all over the place. I'm getting random spikes and drops in older games like CS:GO and League of Legends, jumping from around 50 to 120 regardless of whether I’m on low, medium, or high settings. It’s happening consistently across every configuration I try.
I have a GTX 660 graphics card paired with an A8-3850 processor and 8GB of RAM, and I know that system should be able to handle most games, but it's just not cooperating properly. Newer titles like Far Cry Primal run perfectly fine and at the speeds I’d expect. I used MSI Afterburner to benchmark my PC, and in CS:GO on high settings at 1080p, my GPU usage is consistently capped at only 23 percent – which makes no sense! It's the same problem with League of Legends.
I was considering replacing my old, noisy hard drive while it’s idling, but Sentinel shows 100% GPU usage for both health and performance. I really need some help because I can’t enjoy playing my favorite games at a stable frame rate. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Your computer’s graphics card and processor aren't the most powerful – combined with a traditional hard drive, you probably wouldn’t get the gaming performance you’re expecting. Switching to a solid-state drive for Windows and your games would definitely make things feel much faster and smoother; that’s worth thinking about. Honestly, it might be time to start looking at upgrading your whole system.

Switching to a solid-state drive for Windows and your games would definitely make things feel snappier, though. It might also be worth thinking about whether it’s time for a complete system upgrade.
