Low FPS in CS:GO
Low FPS in CS:GO
I purchased a new PC with the following configuration: RTX3060 Ti, i5-12400F, 2x16GB DDR4 3200Mhz RAM, 500W power supply, and a 165Hz monitor. Based on these specs, I expected at least 4-500fps in CS:GO with low resolution and certain settings, which appears to be CPU-limited. However, I only achieve 2-300fps on maps like Mirage and on more challenging maps such as Nuke, Vertigo, and Inferno. It drops to around 160fps, which is quite low. I notice it feels sluggish and doesn’t perform well compared to other games I play, like COD Warzone 2.0 where I get 90fps at low settings but struggle at 1440p.
I’ve tried several fixes: reinstalling Windows multiple times, running games without background apps, updating BIOS, adjusting power plans, enabling high performance settings, and tweaking NVIDIA options. Even stuttering occurs during the first few minutes of gameplay. I checked power usage and clock speeds, and found that my CPU had a power limit that restricted performance when it reached around 75°C. I disabled that limit with throttling, which increased power draw but didn’t improve frame rates. The temperature was normal.
Summary: I reduced resolution or adjusted settings in CS:GO, but the FPS remained unchanged. While other players with similar specs achieved higher FPS and stability, my experience was consistently subpar. I also noticed two friends bought identical PCs and had comparable performance, suggesting a hardware issue rather than just configuration differences.
It might connect to the Direct X version. I’m not sure about the options menu in CS:GO, but there could be a way to switch the API being used. Older games sometimes behave differently with newer Direct X versions. If everything else matches and your system works on other titles, it likely points to CS:GO.
1440p resolution with 90 FPS appears acceptable at those configurations. Normal 90 FPS in Warzone 1440p suggests it's not related to GPU or CPU performance. Check the game files for any issues.
The prebuilt model comes from a well-known manufacturer such as Dell or HP.
CS:GO offers many adjustable settings that can unexpectedly disrupt performance. Look into the number of maps or workshop items you’re subscribed to—they might be contributing to FPS problems simply by being active. Turn off the Steam Overlay. Clear your autoexec and configuration files (this can be tricky since Steam may sync them from the cloud). Wipe out all launch options. Set a console FPS cap; using fps_max 0 will reduce frames compared to limiting it to around 800.
