Low FPS during the Cold War era paired with a 2080 resolution.
I’m starting to feel really frustrated here... both COD warzone and Cold War aren’t hitting frames above 70 even when I lower the settings the most. When I turn it up to ultra, it drops to around 50 and 40 fps. I’m not sure what’s going on, but with my RTX 2080 and nothing else affected, I just have to stop struggling and share this. Here’s my full specs list: i7 4790k, 4.00GHz, Zotac 2080, AMD Ryzen 2000, 2000MHz XPG M.2, 500GB SSD, 2TB HDD Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3 1866MHz, MSI Z97 Gaming motherboard. Yes, I know it’s an old setup—just got everything new six years ago except the GPU. I’m really desperate for help. My friends are consistently getting 200 fps with little to no lag, while I’m stuck at 80 or less. I’ve tried everything—overclocking, underclocking, restarts, even resetting and reformatting. Nothing works. It doesn’t make sense to get around 60-70 fps on average with such low numbers on an RTX 2080... please help me out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
i used msi afterburner to analyze those metrics, and it looked like cpu utilization stayed consistently above 100% without ever reaching a full cap. for instance, it often showed around 88% cpu, 54% gpu. i also want to mention that i play at 1080p with a 144 hz display. the issue stems from low input lag, low fps, plus occasional micro stutters causing fps drops.
It seems to be related to CPU limitations, particularly stuttering and inconsistent FPS at high settings. Have you attempted overclocking since you own an Intel-K SKU (K SKU is unlockable for boosting) with a 4790k chip up to around 4.4GHz?
The 4790k isn't performing well even after adding an OC. Remember, this game was released recently, so other parts of your setup are limiting its performance.
i was planning on just keeping the 2080 and getting a new 10900k and mobo/ram/cooler/psu but then AMD dropped a bombshell with their new lineup and now im stuck waiting for intel to release whatever they're planning on releasing in q1 2021 along side my urge to get a 3080... end me :c
I would rather wait for Alder Lake in 2H of 2021 since it will be on a newer lithography (I think 10nm SuperFin) but I'm not too sure how that architecture will play out since Intel is going with a hybrid model with BIG.little design. If I had to spend the money now on a new platform, it would have to be AMD.
