I'm checking out budget CPUs to see if they suit 1080p gaming well. The Ryzen 3 4100 fits in the $70–85 range, the Ryzen 5 4500 is around $90, the Ryzen 5 3600 sits near $90–100 (not counting the cooler), and the Ryzen 5 5500 is about $110. Which offers the best value for performance?

The price of 3600 is 100$, but why would it be listed as a tray? In this scenario, 5500 automatically wins by default since you won’t need another 20$ for the cooler. Avoid the full refresh of 4000 models and opt for the cheaper 3000 versions instead.

Would the 5600 justify the extra cost compared to the 5500? It seems cooler too, if I remember correctly.

R5 5500 or i3-13100 are not top choices for gaming when newer processors are available.

It depends on the region of the chip and the additional cost involved. A 30$-45$ US surcharge would likely be the highest limit I’d accept before focusing on overclocking the 5500 to fix the slow cache, but if the person isn’t comfortable with that, it would be worth at least cheaper than the 50-75$ increase between 5600 and 5600X.

These are worthless and can be ignored. Ignoring the effort to clock the rams to 4533 won’t help much, especially since the max fclk on these parts is around 2200-2266 on the Renoir, and pushing the CPU to just 4.4-4.5ghz won’t fix the issue. Save yourself a trip—look for a used one priced between 80-90$. The 5500 does slightly better. For cooling, it’s usually cheaper to buy a 775-core chip for about $2 and install it on your CPU; it should handle the heat much better than the original design.

For performance, choose the 3600 if it's $20 or less than the 5500; otherwise, go with the 3600.
