I've configured two monitors in an extended setup—my main Dell AW3423DW and a secondary one in portrait mode. When the system starts, it identifies the 1080 as the first display and then notices flickering as windows adjust for the portrait layout. It seems fixing the order might help, but I'm unsure how to prioritize the Dell or resolve the issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Change the connections of the display cables to the graphics card ports in the correct sequence. The card will list its ports in order. At startup, it shows the display to the first port—currently the portrait monitor named display 1. After loading, your settings will take effect, then it switches to the main display for display 2. If you reverse the ports, the landscape monitor should appear first.

My setup is exactly like this and I've struggled to fix it. The secondary vertical screen uses DP while the main one is HDMI, but Windows never recognizes the primary as 1. I can't change it no matter which HDMI port I use for the main display—it always shows up as #2. It's quite funny when the BIOS tries to open on my side vertical monitor...

I'm planning to test this approach but must hold off until tomorrow since my current cable is almost too short for it (a new one would be better anyway)
