I'm checking to upgrade my school laptop to Windows 10. I also want to increase its RAM soon (in a few months), but I heard some advice about keeping the same hardware or else Windows might stop working. I thought RAM wouldn’t be important, anyone have more details?

The outcome doesn't depend on whether you replace the HDD/SSD or swap the laptop's motherboard, right?

The RAM is unrelated to the activation process; it's the motherboard that matters.

They don't suggest HDD or SSD. For a laptop running Windows 8, the activation code is probably built into the BIOS. That should avoid any issues.
