You're looking for the physical version of Fallout 4 and want to use Steam for automatic updates without needing a disk. It's possible, but you'll need to purchase the physical copy and then transfer it to Steam for updates.

I purchased the collector's edition of Fallout: New Vegas at launch and received a Steam code. I think Bethesda will follow the same approach with Fallout 4, though it's still too soon to confirm.

It seems the recent physical copies I own let me install games directly instead of downloading them. GTA 5 and Witcher 3 are examples. I’m not sure if GOG functions properly, but auto-updates are enabled. I might need to download them manually, possibly taking a few days for the updates to complete.

You input the keycode for the platform you wish to use, and it’s complete. Back then, you’d need a physical disc to play and manually apply DLL patches. Now you don’t have to keep the disc in the drive while patching games.
