He should consider a Navi Series GPU or a high-end Polaris instead of an RTX. For the CPU, a Ryzen 5 seems like a solid choice.

This upgrade route looks significantly improved with the Ryzen 3 3300X.

The combination of 3300X and 5700 seems secure for the future, especially if you can replace the CPU with a X570 or B550 board. On the other hand, the 10600K with overclocking might be worth considering, but its long-term reliability is uncertain.

10600K performs much better in games these days. If you don’t upgrade soon, get one of the 5700 or 5700xt—they’re the top options for the upcoming consoles if the leaks are accurate.

He likely won’t take a 5700XT GPU since he’s more into RTX buzz. On the CPU side, he’s a big fan of Intel and would probably go for something like 10600K. Is it worth spending about $260 on a processor instead of buying a 3300X or even a 3600 right now (which is around $167)? The performance boost from 10600K makes that question worth considering.

The RTX hype is widespread across several titles, with many praising its performance. The 3600 CPU pairs well with the 10600K, offering similar power at a lower cost and improved efficiency. This setup delivers top results without breaking the bank, making it a strong choice for your budget.
