Looking to Overclock to 5ghz
Looking to Overclock to 5ghz
+175MHz core/+500MHz memory) and achieved a score of 6081. I increased the CPU voltage to 4.8 with the same 1.375V, and Cinebench with HWMonitor behind it reached 97°C and my score dropped to around -20. Here are some questions: should I keep trying to raise the voltage? Could it actually make things worse and prevent Windows from running? Will higher voltage cause more heat issues? Should I stick with 4.6ghz at 1.37V? And what about comparing 4.6ghz versus 5ghz? Any other tips or concerns you should consider, please let me know! Thanks!
I’m not the most experienced with overclocking, but I suggest slightly reducing your voltage while keeping the overclock active. This should help maintain stability and keep the CPU cooler. If you notice crashes during benchmarking, it means it’s not stable—you’ll need to adjust either the voltage or the clock speed. You’ll have to experiment with different settings since each CPU behaves differently, and not everyone will reach the same performance level. I’d aim for a high clock speed and keep the voltage as low as necessary to provide sufficient power without causing excessive heat.
I'm not the most experienced with overclocking, but I suggest slightly reducing your voltage while keeping the overclock active. Monitor stability and see if it holds. Lowering voltage helps keep the CPU cooler. If you notice crashes during testing, it’s not stable—adjust voltage or clock settings. You’ll need to experiment with clock/voltage combinations since each CPU behaves differently. I’d aim for a high clock speed and keep voltage as low as necessary to provide adequate power without causing thermal throttling.
I'll begin with the standard voltage setting and then adjust the CPU cores to check stability. Looking forward to your updates, thank you!
Below are two OC guide links – one from MSI's official site, which is clear and well-organized with detailed BIOS page images, though some terms may vary from your own BIOS; the other comes from DarkBreeze on Tom's website, offering extensive explanations that go beyond the MSI guide.
The Original Ralph shared two resources for OC guides. One is from MSI's website, offering clear "by the numbers" instructions with visuals of each BIOS page. The other comes from DarkBreeze on Tom's site, providing detailed explanations that go beyond what the MSI guide covers.
I managed to reach up to 5ghz with voltage on auto. I ran a stress test for an hour and it succeeded! My goal is to overclock the GPU (Zotac 1070 ti Amp edition). I tried it in Heaven using my previous overclock settings (+175 core, +500 memory) and kept the GPU at stock without any crashes. Then I increased it to +100 core and +200 memory, which didn’t cause any issues—though I suspect it could go higher, but I’m unsure because I later encountered a blue screen. Currently, my CPU is stable at 5ghz with voltage around 0.990 or 0.995, though I’m not sure yet. I’ll run the stress test on HWBOT for an hour to check stability and share the results once it’s done.
