I'm using a Netgear Nighthawk XR500 and Arris Surfboard SB8200 with 1GB internet. For competitive shooters, my ping has been between 40-60 ms lately. I’m looking into the best upgrades to minimize delay and lower my latency. Since my budget isn’t limited, I need options that fit SparkLight’s approved list. Here’s the link to the approved modems: https://support.sparklight.com/hc/en-us/...ntial-Only. Thanks for your assistance!

You're right to check. It could be the router or it might be your internet service provider.

It might be possible, though I can't verify it. I assume it's the top ISP nearby, which gives me confidence.

The SurfBoard SB8200 functions well as a solid DOCSIS 3.1 modem. A ping range of 40-60 ms is acceptable for cable connections. Keep in mind that latency can change depending on network load, so testing at various times helps. You can verify if your router adds to delays by running tests while connected directly to the modem. Regarding measurement methods, let me know. If lower latency matters more, explore fiber options nearby—speed may be limited, but latency tends to be better.

Compare the results with speed tests on speedtest.net and fast.com. Your DNS server is currently set to what it shows.

The speed test indicates roughly 9ms, while the game runs at 40-60ms. It seems my DNS is likely 8.8.8.1.

Not 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 means something different. Your link with your ISP isn't the problem. The rest of the path to the game servers isn't under your control. Check a trace route to identify where the delay happens. It could be that the servers are busy or the route is through congested nodes. Would you like me to suggest ways to use a server nearer to you?

You might want to check documentation for the specific tool or service you're using. There are often guides on running trace routes or diagnostics within that platform.

Are you referring to location-based filtering and boundary setting? If you haven't configured this, it won't function. Find the IP address of the game server. Execute a trace route using the instructions provided earlier.
