Looking to enhance my PC during Prime Day.
Hello. Today is a prime day, so I’m planning to upgrade my PC a bit (streets of Tarkov are tough).
My current specs are:
R5 5500 CPU
RTX 3060 (12GB) GPU
32 GB 2400MTf DDR4 RAM
Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB SSD
MSI A320M-A PRO MAX motherboard
I don’t have a specific budget in mind, but I’ve always chosen the most affordable options. Sorry if I’m making a mistake—it’s my first time sharing this.
Edit: I haven’t used XMP settings for four years and only recently enabled them. The RAM speed is now 3600.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Thread moved to the Systems section. I don’t have a specific budget in mind, but I’ve always chosen the most economical option. Sorry if I’m doing it incorrectly—it’s my first post here. Follow the style of this thread: *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* Initially, respect is essential—this adaptation comes from the Animal’s *How To Ask For New Build Advice* post. I made it because many people are now seeking upgrade guidance both here and on CPU forums, and I believe... forums. the community can proceed with helpful suggestions. Please mention your location and budget. For your build details, list the components clearly: CPU: CPU cooler: Motherboard: Ram: SSD/HDD: GPU: PSU: Chassis: OS: Monitor: Add the age of the PSU along with its make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
Motherboard is a bit low end, but swapping it out for another AM4 board doesn't seem cost effective.
5700X3D is pretty much its regular price.
Potential GPU upgrade is all about what you want to spend, and dependent on your PSU and chassis.
Plenty of RAM. Decent Storage.
Monitor/ GPU upgrade?
You are at that weird middle state where the system is not old, but to start getting into more performance you are going to have to spend a lot more.
CPU model is R5 5500 with a Stock Wraith cooler. Motherboard is MSI A320M-A PRO MAX (MSI click bios 5). RAM capacity is 32 GB at 2400MTf DDR4. Storage includes a 2TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD/HDD. The GPU is a PNY GeForce RTX 3060 12GB XLR8 Gaming Revel Epic-X RGB with dual fans. Power supply unit is an EVGA 400 N1 100-N1-0400-L1 400W (4-year warranty). Chassis is the Rosewill PRISM S500 ATX mid tower. Operating system runs Windows 10. The monitor setup consists of two hand-me-down units, each capable of 60FPS, with one being an Acer model and the other a Dell.
I would start with a CPU upgrade and if you have money left over, then upgrade the GPU...no point doing it the other way around, get a better CPU first. The best gaming CPU for your board is the Ryzen 7 5800X3D followed by the cheaper 5700X3D, they would also provide a uplift in general tasks and video editing.
Sure, I can help with that. What do you think about the 5700X3D since it's on sale? And would you like some suggestions for a cooler to go with it?
I'm not really into the newest coolers. Previously I've used the "Cooler master hyper 212" and the "be quite pure rock", both are single 120mm fan air coolers and would work for the 5700X3D, but I think there are better options available now. Or you could opt for water cooling with an aio, and I'd recommend a 240mm radiator model.
Anyway, something I've learned about Ryzen is that you can achieve better performance by lowering the voltage. By turning on PBO and optimizing the curve, the CPU will run at higher speeds. There are many YouTube videos explaining this. Also, remember to update your motherboard BIOS to the latest version before installing a new CPU.
