I'm gearing up for the Mass Effect: Andromeda release and am looking to boost my AMD CPU performance to extend its lifespan. I plan to overclock it slightly for a better experience. A new GPU will also be installed along with an upgraded case and water cooling for my AMD FX-8350 at 4.0Ghz. The graphics card will be an EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC Black Edition, paired with a Corsair Hydro Series H110i cooler. I’ll be using a full-tower CM Storm Trooper case because it offers superior airflow compared to my current setup. Any general advice or suggestions for other components would be greatly appreciated. I’m aware of the potential bottleneck with my FX-8350 and GTX 1070, so I’m focusing on optimizing my CPU instead of overclocking.

What I’ve been struggling to find is the ideal PSU for this build; AMD tends to prefer higher power draw, and pushing it too high isn’t helping much. I’m still unsure about what to purchase and what to look for, which is why your expertise would be so valuable. My existing unit is a 550W Bronze model, and I’ll update once I have more details from the manufacturer or similar sources.

Current setup:
- ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
- AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 Ghz
- ASUS GeForce GTX 760 DirectCU II OC
- Crucial Ballistix 16GB DDR3 RAM @ 1.6Ghz
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler
- Cooler Master ???? Case

Future setup (ideally):
- ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
- AMD FX-8350 @ 4.4-4.7 (?)
- EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC Black Edition
- Crucial Ballistix 16GB DDR3 RAM @ 1.6Ghz
- Corsair Hydro Series H110i Liquid Cooling Solution
- CM Storm Trooper Full Tower Case

Best regards,
Spicy

It looks like you're confident your upgrade budget is sufficient to move past the outdated AM3 platform. All the overclocking efforts will only bring you close to an i3 6100 level. A fresh motherboard paired with an i5 and GTX1060 would likely cost a similar amount.

For your PSU, I'd aim for the 650-750w range. Brands like Seasonic, XFX, Antec, Super Flower, EVGA B2, G2, GS, P2, or Corsair RMx/RMi would all be solid choices.

Honestly, it seems you're upgrade budget is plenty high enough to get you off of that ancient AM3 platform. All that overclocking will only get you "near i3 6100" performance. You could pretty much get a new motherboard + i5 + GTX1060 for about the same price.
Anyway, to answer your psu question, I would probably shoot for the 650-750w range. Anything by Seasonic, XFX, Antec, Super Flower, EVGA's B2, G2, GS, P2, or Corsair's RMx or RMi would be great.
Ey thanks for stopping by! Believe it or not but I am actually very satisfied with my outdated AMD Rig. I am very aware that an Intel Build would be a far more efficient system and probably suffer less hiccups etc. I own an Intel Powered Laptop on the move. I'm quite sure I'll be declared an idiot for actually favoring the AMD; But there's a reason, though! I am spending most of my spare time producing music in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), and have done so for the past 4 years with an AMD Powered machine as the main workplace. The FX-8350's raw clock speed has been amazing while using my daw, and I intend to keep it that way. Not to mention that I didnt have to pay that much for it!
Back to the PSU's: Could you by any chance give me some links to the ones that have a good performance for a reasonable price?

Which country are you from? I reside in Sweden, yet I can still get most recommendations.

It should be but I’d personally choose the 750w. They produce a semi-modular PSU and I believe their CX model is roughly 30-40$ cheaper. Just a couple weeks ago Best Buy had the semi-modular Corsair 750w PSU for 89$. It might be cheaper now as some sites are running week-long cyber deals. A lot of folks will likely say I’m crazy and that a 650w is enough. But with liquid cooling, an GTX 1070, and CPU overclocking, I think it’s better to have extra capacity. In the long run, when you decide to upgrade to Intel or even Zen, you’ll have everything you need.
