Looking to create a Minecraft server for kids
So my friend has a daughter who enjoys Minecraft. The idea was to set up a Minecraft server, something not every elementary school student has access to. My friend has old PCs scattered around. The most powerful one he owns is a 3770k with a 4 pipe plate cooler. It seems fine now, though it might need some repaste. It comes with a 4x4 1333 DDR3 RAM, an ASUS P877-V motherboard, and some unknown-sized mechanical hard drives. It’s stocked with ATM. We could try overclocking it, but it won’t reach very high speeds. It runs Windows 10. There are several older GPUs available, the biggest being a 7950. It meets the minimum requirements but doesn’t reach the top performance levels, especially in terms of clock speed. How well would it perform? What should we expect? And what will be needed?
Typically, processing power isn't an issue on Minecraft servers (that CPU should handle it easily), but you still require ample RAM and a stable internet connection. When using the latest vanilla version, it's recommended to allocate 250-500MB per player, and additional amounts if plugins or mods are active.
