It will work fine since the top-end modems only allow 8 connections. Comcast provides no more than 4 upstreams in any region based on my observations.

I use a Synology router and have never owned an Asus or Netgear model before. Asus is often criticized for poor customer service, though the products themselves can be reliable when functioning properly. Their support seems inconsistent, but I’m leaning toward recommending both Asus and Netgear routers in this situation.

It's unusual you mention past positive experiences with Asus. I'll check out Synology options and see their current offerings. Are most routers equipped for port forwarding and do modern firewalls perform well?

They have security measures in place, but I'm not very experienced. Routers typically need port forwarding enabled.
