Looking for ways to improve your FPS and gaming experience?
I’ve begun upgrading my own PC and don’t claim much expertise, but I’ve picked up a few tips and made some purchases. However, I still experience lag in games like Fortnite and Call of Duty with FPS drops. Here’s what I’ve set up so far: 16gb RAM, an SSD, and the MSI Geoforce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. I’m planning to build it using a Cyber Power C series pre-built unit and am wondering if any of my current setup can help stabilize my FPS to at least 60fps smoothly.
This is essentially a complete overhaul for you.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
We will need a little more information. Please include/list your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU: include age of unit, apart from make and model
OS: version of Windows 10
Chasiss:
Monitor+resolution:
Check and see which BIOS version you're currently on. You might also want to use DDU to uninstall your GPU drivers. Download the latest drivers from Nvidia's support site and reinstall the driver in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.
when i open the command prompt and type bios, it shows p1.20. i’m not sure if that’s okay. my current specs are an amd fx-6300 with six cores at 3.50 ghz. i have 16gb of ram installed. i’m using windows 10, my monitor is 1080p, and my graphics memory is 14327. the bios info says version 90.16.29.0.29.0.2. i don’t know much about my pc, just trying to improve my fps and game performance.
Your CPU isn't up to date for current games, you'll need a complete platform change. Based on your motherboard and power supply, the FX 8350 might suffice to boost performance, but even this CPU isn't ideal for modern titles. After that, adding more RAM and a newer graphics card will make a significant difference. The main challenge is fitting these new components into an older system that can't handle the graphics you're using.
do you have another cpu that performs better than the fx 8350 and fits within your 300$ budget?
This is essentially a complete overhaul for you.

If you have the budget to replace the CPU, it’s quite simple to switch platforms, which is actually a great idea. Check the details in the previous post. You’ll likely be able to sell your other components and receive some compensation for the RAM and CPU/Motherboard. Many people still purchase FX 6300 CPUs as long as they’re affordable, though they may not perform well with modern games—especially if used for older titles or basic tasks.
