I've been exploring ways to improve my upload and download speeds, especially since downloading games is slow. Anyone have suggestions for a modem that could help boost my connection?

Check the rates your ISP charges and see if they match the speeds you claim during a speed test.

You can't exceed the speed your internet service offers. To achieve higher speeds, you'll need to upgrade your plan.

You might also enhance your setup by connecting your PC directly to the router via Ethernet, positioning it nearer the router, and upgrading to a stronger Wi-Fi device.

They claim speeds of up to 400mbps, but your actual performance is around 9 Mbps.

Data caps mean how much data you can use each billing period, not how fast it downloads.

It appears the information is on a page that limits speeds to 400mbps.

are you using wifi instead of a hardline connection? if you're on wifi, what frequency are you operating at? wifi typically performs slower than a hardline. most users likely achieve around 10-50 mbps on wifi unless they recently upgraded their router. if you're using a wifi modem, i don't know the exact settings—i usually purchase my own router and keep other devices like pcs, consoles, and smart tv hardwired.

A decent WiFi card and a functional router can match Ethernet performance, but poor quality devices hurt everything. For instance, connecting an Ethernet cable to my NAS gave me 350 Mbps down, while my computer only got 70-100 Mbps. I’ve heard worse before, so it’s important to understand your setup.

Consider sharing Speedtest or similar data. The first step should be identifying which part of your connection is affected, possibly due to server issues with game files.
