I rely on Avast! mainly to demonstrate my commitment to the software I install, though in reality I don’t always need it. A month ago Spiceworks released a free network utility, which I tested and Avast! flagged it as a Trojan. That’s just a reminder... I also use HirensBoot on a USB occasionally, mainly for entertainment. The rest comes down to understanding what’s safe and avoiding risky actions.
