Hey there, I see you're curious about the best modem/router options. It's true that some people believe LINKSYS offers top performance. But on the page listing top cable modems, they don't mention LINKSYS. That makes sense—maybe it depends on what you need. If you're looking for a reliable brand, I'd recommend checking out popular choices like Netgear, TP-Link, or ASUS. Let me know if you want more details!

Linked earlier to Cisco, Linksys once offered top-notch items. Now they belong to Belkin, though their quality has declined. I believe Belkin no longer manufactures modems, only routers and access points these days.

No, I don't have a specific brand suggestion at the moment. Could you let me know what you're looking for?

When dealing with cable modems, I mostly notice Arris and Netgear recommendations. The SB6183 from Arris and CM600 from Netgear are common choices. It really depends on what your ISP can support. My provider, Comcast, maintains a list of customer-owned modems they’ve tested and confirmed work. They also offer firmware updates for these devices. Companies come and go over time. Back when it was popular, Motorola was a major cable modem player. Their brand is now part of Zoom, while Arris mainly focuses on digital voice modems after acquiring Motorola’s business. Linksys was acquired by Cisco, who believed it could generate significant profits. However, consumer products usually have tighter profit margins, so they eventually divested the Belkin line. Belkin isn’t exactly known for having top-notch customer service.

The AC87U functions as a router, not a modem. The ISP provided a Draytek modem linked directly to our fiber connection (Vigor 2132Fvn), and it performs excellently. The internal Wi-Fi offers solid coverage, though the data transfer rates are quite low.
