Looking for the optimal processor suited to your tasks.
I build renders for my 3d models with Substance Painter and apply textures through the same software. Performance drops noticeably when working with large assets and high-resolution textures. I'm considering upgrading my CPU from an i7-10700f to a higher-end model like the i9-10900k or i9-11900k. While the 10900k seems better for multi-core tasks, I'm struggling to compare them effectively in professional settings. For context, Substance Painter is designed for multicore processing. My current system specs: i7-10700f with 32gb RAM, RTX 3070, two 1tb SSDs in RAID, and a request for your advice. Thank you!
Start with the basics—avoid the 11900K. If you opt for the 11th generation, pick the 11700K since they’re essentially the same chip but in a different range. Unless the price gap is minimal, the i9 isn't worth it. Next, check if you own a Z490 or Z590 board. Without one, upgrading to a K CPU isn’t justified unless you're aiming for overclocking, which rarely pays off. The K CPU price often matches non-K options, but it’s only sensible with a Z-series board for that purpose. Also, consider if Substance Painter uses Intel QuickSync—opt for a non-F CPU to leverage the iGPU. Regarding 11th gen, some applications perform better on Rocket Lake, though results depend on the specific task. Have you seen any benchmarks comparing Substance Painter between 10th and 11th gen?
I haven't tested it and it seems substance painter isn't a common benchmark for people. My motherboard is an AUS TUF Gaming B460M-Plus, so overclocking isn't possible. Still, I wondered if any K CPUs can sustain turbo longer than Ks, even on non-overclocked boards? -PS I'm not very familiar with motherboards. Edited March 5, 2022 by Napo5000
It was once considered a top-tier choice, offering significant value.
