Looking for RAM options from a QVL catalog...
I possess the Strix B550-A board paired with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Recently discovered that my G-skill 3200mhz CL16 setup isn't listed on the QVL and this might explain the occasional freezing when using XMP/DOCP settings. Browsing New Zealand without relying on the QVL is extremely challenging. Conversely, the risk of RAM instability at high speeds initially motivated my search, so I still think exploring the list remains worthwhile. Could I possibly spot compatible modules and then locate a pre-assembled kit containing them? I previously believed selecting RAM with a speed not exceeding the motherboard/CPU limits would suffice.
You don't need to depend on QVLs at all. In reality, none of my machines use RAMs in QVLs. They're all working perfectly (I even boosted their speeds). Many folks dislike the Ryzen Dram Calculator approach but you might find it helpful. Check if your RAM is compatible with RDC; if yes, you could adjust the frequency and timings yourself.
I believe QVLs aren't evaluated when XMP is enabled. It seems like a different approach might be better, though I'm not sure what to do next.
I mean, if the new kit works without the same problems as the previous one, I can always bring the old one back to the store. If it doesn’t, I still have a backup set of RAM available for testing later, which isn’t too bad. Another thought—there are several Trident Z memory kits to choose from. One is 3600mhz with 16-19-19-39 pins, and another is 3200mhz with 16-18-18-38 pins. The latter is a bit cheaper for the same capacity, and I prefer either option. I’m not sure which to pick. Edit: After further research, the X3D model isn’t expected to be as affected by RAM speed as the others, and since I’m already investing in this kit to avoid occasional freezes, it doesn’t need top-tier performance. What matters most is reliability, not speed.
