I have this setup: -i5 6500, -b150m hds, -500w psu 80+ bronze, rx 580 8gb (new). While installing the GPU, I accidentally powered on the PC—probably because the card wasn’t fully seated in the 16x slot. After turning it off and unplugging everything, the PC still wouldn’t turn on. I removed all components except the CPU, 20+4 pins, and a small RAM stick. Even then, it didn’t work. I shorted the green and black PSU wires to check if the power supply was dead, and the fan started. I also tried removing the CMOS battery and reinserting it, plus swapping cables. It seems like the motherboard might be faulty. There don’t appear to be any obvious bad capacitors or issues. I’m not sure what’s going on.
All systems were off, but I managed to get things running again. The storage drive was still unplugged, though. There were no lights active at the moment.
Typically, flipping the power button off and on from the PSU causes the PC to briefly power up for a short time, likely for RAM testing. I also tried shorting the pins and the button to see if that resolved the issue. The reset button was used just to confirm the power button isn’t defective. The motherboard lacks any LEDs or a beep sound device. Neither the CPU fan nor the front or rear panel fans start properly. The rear panel fan is connected via the Molex cable (which has an LED from the PSU), while the front panel fan connects through the MOMO connector.
All systems off. The only links in my computer are: the power cord, the 20+4 pin MMO connector, the 4x2 CPU connector, and a single RAM stick. I tested both on each slot individually, one at a time, checking every option. No SATA or USB devices present.
Seems everything is okay now. It looks like the motherboard pins can't be damaged with any screwdriver. I tried using a U-shaped paper clip from the PSU and the PC started working. But my desk got really messy because I placed all the PC parts on it. * Later note: I suspect something might have happened during GPU installation. There wasn’t enough space on the other side (toward the front panel) and I pushed it hard several times. I had to remove the USB header because it was too tall, and near it are the front-side panel pins. The USB pins also affected the GPU plastic, possibly breaking the front panel power buttons. If anyone sees this, remember it could help in similar cases. * I hope this message makes sense, even though I’m not fluent in English. Thanks for your advice! Cheers!
