You’re trying to install the M.2 drive for your ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO. Make sure you’re following the correct steps in the photos—sometimes the screws are hidden or require a specific tool. If you’re having trouble removing the cover, double-check the manufacturer’s instructions for your exact model.

Welcome to the discussions! The correct screw might be secured by a nut on the board's back? Look for that. It should slide out easily as it should. Thanks for your help!

You have this tiny nut-like object, but I'm not sure what to do to remove it.

It's difficult to see clearly from the photo, but maybe grip the nut while loosening the screw.

Seems like the battle for the motherboard is underway.

I’m unable to access it with my hands or any small tool due to its location behind the case. Should I remove the entire motherboard? IMG_0653.MOV

The issue might stem from the screw being overly tight, or it could indicate another oversight I haven’t noticed.

The screw cover serves a specific function, so it’s best to use it. You can’t just skip it without affecting the setup.
