You're looking to jump back into Black Desert Online. You're considering using your laptop or desktop version. Your laptop has a GTX 980M with 16GB RAM, an SSD, and a decent amount of memory. Your desktop has a GTX 960 with an i5 processor, more RAM, and a higher base clock speed. The main concerns are performance with textures, memory usage, and cooling. Most people say the desktop is better for this game, but you mentioned overheating and throttling issues with your laptop. Integrated graphics on the laptop might help a bit, but not enough for smooth gameplay. If you want better performance and stability, the desktop should be your choice.

The desktop is clearly the right choice. Your laptop's CPU and GPU are mobile versions, not as strong as their desktop versions. An SSD only impacts loading times, not gameplay performance.

The reason I mentioned the SSD is mainly because it supposedly improves texture and mesh quality, as well as enhances stability in this game. Are you still confident it’s a better option to use the PC?

I question the impact of storage on the game. It must download all textures into your computer's VRAM. If uncertain, test it on the Desktop; if unsuccessful, switch to the laptop.

Sure, I can give it a shot. I just wanted to check in online first since my internet is slow, and I don’t want it to take up all the weekend downloading time.

Desktop runs on a single thread, BDO offers top clock speeds, but the GPU lags behind the 980MHz mark. On my i7 it used just one thread, and on my Ryzen I pushed two threads. I haven’t tested it with a Ryzen yet.

Using Steam, you can download the game, transfer your library to a USB drive, play it on another computer, set up Steam, and then during installation it shouldn't require a new download.

I'm sorry for the confusion, but it seems you're asking about the performance of your i7 processor. It's single-threaded and doesn't handle multiple threads well, especially on a high-end i7. As for getting a Ryzen later, it might not be feasible soon.

It will operate with just one thread from your CPU, meaning hyperthreading isn't a concern. The main thing to consider is your CPU's clock speed.
