Searching for a new laptop for a friend in Canada with a budget around $800 CAD. The device should be suitable for their work app training, mainly needing basic functions like emails, games, and video watching. They don’t expect heavy gaming or high-end specs—just something decent for everyday use. A 17-inch screen seems appropriate, with 1080p resolution recommended over 1600x900. I checked Staples/Best Buy and other sites but found nothing that matches their needs. A Lenovo model might be a good option since they’re affordable.

You might examine this unit
ASUS VivoBook M712UA
but we usually get users to fill out a form like this so we can identify what the end user could gain from it. Highlighting the app that your friend will be using on the laptop would be helpful for us in two ways.

It seems the original resolution wasn't 1920x1080. How significant is this difference compared to a 1600x900 display?
