Hi, I’m looking for guidance on picking a motherboard for your budget system. You’re considering the ASUS Strix B450-I Gaming and the ASRock B550m. You’ve decided to go with the ASUS one because its BIOS supports your Ryzen 3 3100, and it’s the more affordable B550 model you found at your local store. Both are priced similarly. The ASRock board should work well with a 4-core processor, and the Strix i looks capable too. Most single GPU setups require around 550 watts, which should be sufficient.

The heatsink appears quite small, offering limited surface area. It's unclear exactly which VRM it employs, but based on similar Asrock entry-level boards like the Pro4, I'd advise against it. Consider the Strix B450-I or MSI's B450I Gaming Plus instead. A 650W power supply seems excessive for this setup.

Ryzen 3100 uses between 50-60 watts. RX 570 draws around 175 watts. A 650-watt PSU is excessive; a unit capable of at least 350 watts on 12 volts will suffice—meaning even a 450-watt PSU works. The Gigabyte B450I Aorus Pro is available for $120 in Dallas (link provided). It features a B450 chipset, slightly less robust VRM than B550 boards but still adequate for a 3800X with eight cores. You’ll enjoy improved onboard audio (ALC1220), Intel gigabit networking, and solid Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. It also includes a SPDIF header for optical audio outputs. Strix-i offers higher specs but older wireless cards, no SPDIF header, poor shielding, and a VRM configuration that’s still sufficient for most builds. If your case supports ATX power supplies, the Corsair CX550M (90$) is a solid choice: semi-modular design lets you manage cables, and it’s more budget-friendly than alternatives.
