Hello, I recently upgraded my processor from Core 2 Duo E7500 at 2.9ghz to Q9400 Quad Core at 2.66ghz. Since then, I've experienced several issues where games suffered significant FPS drops, sound stutter, and slow motion (especially in Arma 2 & MSFS2004) when viewing objects closely. There were no such problems before the change. I'm wondering if my PC is still bottlenecked and would appreciate some advice on what to do or change. Thank you.

The initial test I recommend is to reinstall the old component (both share the same socket, so it seems you haven’t altered the motherboard) and observe if the gameplay returns to normal. Eliminate other possible causes.

The next step would be to verify if a firmware update for the motherboard is required to accommodate the new part.

If necessary, I would suggest performing a clean installation of Windows using a spare disk. I’m uncertain if drivers would differ between the two LGA775 chips, though it’s conceivable.

A significant drop in FPS from a minor speed reduction, without Turbo Boost, doesn’t seem to point to the issue here. However, some of you here have more expertise on this topic.
