I’m preparing to relocate soon and will switch from full FTTC speeds to 7mbps since we’re far from the cable box. It’s not a remote spot and lies on a busy road, so after checking options I see my main choices are either endure slower connections or invest in alternatives like Starlink or FTTPod. Prices will differ by location, but I’m unsure if there’s another way to secure FTTPod without overspending.

FTTPoD often isn't a good choice since it can require tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds and take years to set up. Check if nearby providers offer alternatives like 4G or 5G. Most options are significantly more affordable.

4G connection offers speeds between 2 and 10 megabits per second, but there’s no 5G service available. I don’t have access to another provider, and the internet speed from my home is limited to around 17 megabits per second on favorable days.

Not being online might be a good sign, I believe it means the project is in place even if not fully confirmed yet. I’m just starting to explore the site recently. Are you located in the area shown on that map? https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadban...-broadband (keep in mind it doesn’t cover every region since FTTP rollout is happening now). It’s hard to say for sure if there’s a 100% guarantee.

I checked the available options and the maximum is 2026, which isn’t very encouraging. Regarding ADSL bonding, it may improve speeds in rural regions by combining connections, but I’m still unclear on how bandwidth changes affect performance when the cable itself is limiting.

ADSL bonding is definitely possible, though it often becomes costly and may cause issues when lines have different quality. The maximum frequency for copper transmission sets the boundary. Adding another line creates a second pair, effectively doubling your bandwidth (assuming line quality varies). Many ISPs don’t offer true bonding—combining download and upload speeds—but some do. Whether it’s worth it depends on whether you need higher upload speeds for tasks like updates or large game downloads across up to four connections. Load balancing is a solid alternative for such activities, as it handles file splits efficiently across multiple connections.

You're welcome. I reached out to OpenReach and they mentioned they had upgrade plans that were later canceled. It seems you might need to consider ADSL bonding or load balancing now. It's puzzling why fewer options exist in 2021 when internet use is so widespread.

It needs to generate revenue to make it worthwhile, but certain locations simply don’t support that.
