Hi, I've got a 5900x with dark hero board. I've already tried various OC methods. Here are my tests so far: 1.2 manual, 46 all cores BIOS settings (link), CR20 screen (link), and CR20 with temperatures (link).
I've also adjusted voltage and used the curve optimizer BIOS settings (link) with temperatures on CR20. The best results came from combining curve + PBO + switch settings.
This raises a few questions when using OC per CCX:
- Should I enable core voltage override or keep it automatic?
- Do I need to specify a core ratio, or will the CCX handle it?
- How can I find optimal values for both CCX and PBO?
- What are the ideal limits for PBO?

You're complicating things unnecessarily, especially with the curve optimizer available. Ryzen's performance drops significantly after Zen 2, and it's usually not worth the effort—especially now that boost trading is common. AMD Precision Boost works well on its own and often outperforms manual tuning. It just requires sufficient power and thermal capacity to perform at its best. To maximize results, undervolt the chip, use manual PBO settings, and adjust power limits accordingly. Once stable, fine-tune voltage settings like PPT, TDC, and EDC. Keep in mind the chip can overheat at higher settings, so good cooling is essential.
It is. I mentioned after Zen 2, meaning both Zen 2 and Zen 3 struggle with OC.
After a slight adjustment, I tested an OC with a PBO curve and the dark hero setting. The settings are voltage and auto core per ccx: 47/46 @ 1.22v. Switch amp is 45. PBO Curve: -5 / -15 / -30 max cpu boost override: +100 LLC 3. I didn’t run a full stress test, but here’s the Cinebench score in multi: 635 points. In mono it’s 635 as well. For temperatures, the peak is at 74°C, but on desktop it stays around 38–43°C with a 27°C ambient. Are these numbers accurate?
