It's inexpensive and simple to obtain; purchasing windows priced above $100 isn't really beneficial, as you receive an official license.

On numerous setups I simply put in Windows 7 or 10 and it worked without requiring a key.

You might be able to use LibreOffice as a temporary solution—it functions similarly to MS Office 2003 and supports all its file formats.
