Hey, I'm searching for affordable motherboards compatible with the 9800X3D. You want to install the CPU directly without flashing the BIOS, since you don’t have an AMD cup. This is your first time using an AMD CPU, so let me know if you need guidance on setup.

I purchased a B650 MSI gaming plus wifi for a friend a couple of weeks back, paired with a 7000 series CPU. The box mentioned it was designed for 9000 series chips and the BIOS update—it wasn’t clear if it would be helpful. Now that B650 boards are shifting toward 9000 series compatibility, you’ll need to investigate the specific board and supplier to confirm if an updated BIOS is available.

This appears to be the most affordable B850 motherboard available. While it may cost more than some B650 or A620 options, you can be confident it arrives fully prepared for the 9000 series right away.

The B650 livemixer requires a BIOS upgrade, yet it remains one of the top options for its cost.

You're puzzled because you thought about getting a motherboard for an AM5 CPU but didn't install any processor. It seems confusing since updates are important for compatibility and performance.

It seems the special BIOS flashback feature is mainly for motherboards with dedicated ports, like this B650 model. Updating the BIOS usually requires connecting it to a specific port and the motherboard will handle the update automatically. On boards without such ports, the CPU must read the BIOS changes directly while in BIOS mode.

All B650 models and higher can be updated using a USB stick without a CPU, which isn't a concern unless you lack a compatible CPU.
