Looking for assistance with your overclocking project?
Hello dear
Tom
munity.
I’m facing some issues while overclocking my i7 8700k.
The maximum I’ve achieved is 4.7GHz at 1.3V. That’s quite impressive for an 8700k, compared to what others report at 5GHz with 1.29V.
Could it be that I made a mistake in the UEFI-BIOS settings?
I configured: Multiplier on 47 = 4.7GHZ, VCore Voltage at 1.3V, and Internal Loadline Calibration set to Extreme.
I also enabled XPM.
Is my CPU just faulty (silicon luck), or is it the motherboard, or is it something else?
I own a Z370 Aorus Ultra Gaming. I’ve read many negative reviews from der8auer, OC3D, and others about overclocking and stability, so I’m wondering if that’s the cause.
Last night I tested my CPU again, hoping lowering the temperatures would help. I usually see readings between 50°C and 60°C before it crashes.
Understanding the correct offset requires knowing the base vcore first. For example, if it's 1.3, an offset of 0.02 will adjust it to a maximum of 1.302, but you must determine the starting vcore value. If it reaches 1.5, apply a negative offset around -0.70v and verify the actual reading is 1.43, then continue adjusting downward.
What CPU cooler are you employing? You should be improving even with the Ultra Gaming!!! reset BIOS to defaults, adjust multiplyer to 48, modify vore to 1.325v and LLC to Turbo... Please inform me whether this helps, then you can reduce vcore to check stability.

Thanks for your help. But No...
I reset the BIOS to the optimized standards, set multiplyer to 48, changed vore to 1.325v (I even tried 1.33V) and LLC to Turbo. Just as you suggested.
OCCT gave me an Error 3 times. Once
ERROR on Core#0
(and the loud quack-noise scared tf out of me ... ^^)
And Aida64 gave me a blue-screen after 3:00, 2:24 and 3:01min. Every time there was another error code.
At OCCT I just kept everything on default and just clicked start.
In AIDA64 I stressed the CPU, FPU, cache and system memory.
Should I go higher than 1.33V just for 4.8GHz ??
But thanks for your help
Hi, what CPU cooler are you using?
Regarding increasing power, you can reach up to 1.4v like others do, but I won’t exceed 1.35v—that’s my limit! I’m a bit afraid of going higher.
I’m not sure what’s happening, but it could be related to the motherboard or maybe the 8600K isn’t the best. Still, you should get at least 4.7...
I hope someone else can help me out.

Sorry... I forgot that part. I have the Corsair H115i (280mm AiO).
Yes, with my luck I might have gotten the worst possible 8700k. And now that I’ve had it, I won’t have a chance to replace it...
I’ll test 1.35V at 4.8GHz with an LLC Turbo setup (or see if Performance is better). It’s stable at 4.7GHz on 1.3V...
If it’s the motherboard, I might check sales and consider getting an Asus Maximus Hero instead.
Yes, you're correct about the H115i being more than sufficient. If you manage to obtain a better motherboard later, go for it—just keep in mind that the Gigabyte Ultra has a somewhat negative reputation... Good luck!
Yep, you're correct about the H115i—it's more than sufficient. If you manage to get a better motherboard later, go for it; the Gigabyte Ultra is decent despite its reputation... Hope you do well. Thanks again for your assistance, though I'm still a bit upset about my hardware situation.

Appreciate your assistance once more... but I remain a bit disappointed with my hardware...
I had a thought but have you considered trying adaptive mode or OSSET mode for overclocking?

You're correct, the H115i performs quite well... If you manage to obtain a superior motherboard later, follow your current approach on the Gigabyte Ultra gaming, which has some drawbacks... Wishing you good luck.

No... I'm not familiar with that. What exactly is it?
By the way, I've tried 1.35V and it didn't work either.
