I chose to upgrade my G1 800 Tower to an i7-4790K, but I need a more efficient cooler. I found a compatible cooler here: https://www.morele.net/phantom-spirit-12...-14846351/. However, I discovered that the CPU backplate size isn’t standard (thanks HP). Any suggestions for aftermarket options? I’m using stock Intel on my system.

Have you already made the upgrade? What platform were you upgrading from? It doesn’t seem like a good investment given how outdated the system is. Are you experiencing real cooling problems? Make sure the BIOS supports the CPU you plan to install. HP’s BIOS might only recognize CPUs they actually released for that specific model. You’ve already noticed the mounting issue with the cooler—some HP models have it bolted to the side panel, which is solid but unclear if a standard cooler would fit. Would it really be worth the effort or cost? The case itself probably isn’t providing adequate cooling.

The CPU cost around seventy dollars, which isn’t something I can afford for a full new setup. The BIOS supports the CPU, and I’ve confirmed that. The cooler includes these push pins. I just placed an order for the CPU.

For a new CPU, consider using the existing cooler instead of overclocking. Standard upgrade parts aren’t designed for this setup. You might find better performance with upgraded components. The old CPU model was DDR3, so newer models support DDR4 and offer improved features. Even if it costs more—say $100—it’s worth it to upgrade your system.

The system came with an i5 4570, which is a great upgrade. I own 16GB RAM as the baseline, and a 1050ti model. This setup is solid and reliable. I’m happy with my current HP machine and plan to upgrade to an AM5 PC with an RTX this year.

Unclear what you're referring to. You bought a used i7 4790k for $70.

DDR4 RAM is becoming more affordable lately, and with enough budget I’d upgrade to a modern setup.

The connection displays matching coolers. If you're not interested in the Dynatron line, Silverstone also offers some lower-end options.
