I’m working on setting up Windows XP on my Ubuntu system so I can upgrade to BIOS 1004 and use the new CPU. The motherboard is an Asus M2N-MX BIOS 0907. Upgrading from Athlon 3500+ to Athon X2 5600+ has several steps, with four possible methods in the manual. Three of them need bootable CDs, so I’m leaning toward the fourth option: 'ASUS Update' which should handle the BIOS update. Even though it mentions a support CD, I’ll attempt to use the download. I’ve previously tried Windows 7 and 10 but faced errors—like missing EULA on XP, requirements not met by Vista, and Vista crashing during the update. I also experimented with Vista but ran into blue screens. My drive setup includes a 2TB SATA SSD for Ubuntu, an IDE drive for Linux, and a spare SATA port for the DVD drive. After switching to a non-English Windows 7 or Vista using a backup hard drive, everything started working smoothly. I’m hoping this setup will now be compatible. Thank you for your assistance!

I recall adjusting my Windows XP ISOs with nLite to add drivers and eliminate unnecessary components. Could be a good idea.

Thank you for your prompt response. It seems I’ve already tested the 'xp sp3' version, which appears to cause a blue screen. The SP2 and another SP3 versions worked fine for me. I’ll try Vista again using the spare drive, which is Vista Ultimate SP2. Hopefully this will be more stable than Professional, similar to Windows 7. If that doesn’t work, I’ll consider using the floppy drives. I haven’t owned a floppy before, but I’ll need to get one soon. Let me try Vista and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

Have you attempted to refresh the BIOS using a USB stick? I'm uncertain if the device is outdated enough for this, but that's the method on my system (ASUS too).

Latest notice: A colleague shared information about EZ Flash (also thanks Eigenvektor), and I immediately tried implementing it. But it requires a CD-Rom or Floppy. I used a RW CD, inserted the BIOS updates, but nothing happened—still needing one of those discs to be read. I contacted Asus live chat to check possibilities, but they dismissed EZ Flash or the Windows utility and suggested using a floppy drive instead. They promised someone from technical support would follow up, but that never occurred. For the Windows tool, it’s command-line based and lacks a graphical interface, unlike the manual version. Since I’m unsure what to do and don’t want to risk damaging the BIOS, here’s the device and the update files. Could anyone clarify how to proceed? Thanks.
