Hey there! Welcome to the discussion. I'm trying to figure out the best way to proceed after upgrading my motherboard and CPU. Some advice suggests backing up everything and starting from scratch, while others recommend simply installing the OS and storage drives into the new board. Since I already have Windows on my M.2 SSD and most of my games on a 2.5 SSD, I'm upgrading from an ASUS ROG Strix Z590 to a ASUS Z790 TUF and i9-13900k. I'm curious about the steps if I keep the same storage hardware. What drive should I use for backups, and how can I restore my files exactly as before the clean install? I'm planning to do this tonight and would really appreciate any guidance! Thanks a lot!

You can simply reinstall your storage but it’s better to replace Windows for avoiding driver issues. Don’t format your drives unless necessary, and if apps are installed, remove or move them to the boot drive. There are many options available. I opted for a simpler approach and used external HDDs to safeguard essential data.
