Looking for assistance in reviewing video files for issues?
I need a method to automatically examine my video collection and report on potential glitches or issues. My personal library includes many Blu-rays and DVDs, and I often experience problems during playback even after cleaning the discs. I'm looking for a programmatic solution that can scan through all files and highlight those that might be problematic. I've tried tools like FFMPEG and FFPROBE, but they focus on corrupted or unplayable files rather than minor hiccups. There are also mentions of Anymp4 and FVC, though I'm unsure if they’re reliable for this purpose without more confirmation.
They were ripped smoothly with MakeMKV. It checks checksums automatically for known files to ensure quality. Any dust or scratches would stop it completely. I rely on it often to verify purchased titles are defect-free. You’re re-encoding them probably to reduce size, but that could be the source of issues if the file handling isn’t working right. I haven’t noticed any glitches from a MakeMKV rip itself—unless your player can’t manage the bitrate or real-time transcoding is lagging.
I've partially identified the problem. Plex...but I'm still unsure. Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, I used MakeMKV and thought I'd found its checksum, though I couldn't locate it. The disc works in other players and others, which confused me. I haven't re-encoded anything yet. I just rip directly from MakeMKV—those files are huge, so I shouldn't be wasting space. Plex supports direct streaming, which is odd. I also noticed glitches with light effects. If I start re-encoding with HandBrake to reduce file sizes, I might pick a better codec and container. That could fix both issues at once. It's strange Plex doesn't transcode if the container or codec isn't compatible with my players. Also puzzling that both the Plex web and Xbox apps have the same problem.
The fix involved re-encoding the file. I used handbrake and performed 1080 blu-ray rips using custom settings (beginning with the SuperHQ 1080p30 preset). Plex is now functioning properly to stream the files to my devices. There was an issue with streaming or receiving directly from my servers, but I don’t recall finding the exact problem—possibly related to a video codec, container format, or another factor.
