I've been delaying setting up a new system for some time now. Recently, I began editing 4K videos on YouTube as a hobby, and my PC frequently reaches full CPU usage in Task Manager during video work. I'm also playing games such as Cyberpunk 2077. The AMD 5900X is scarce in the UK, with the best deal just over £611 for a similar model priced around £608. Is the 5900X better than the 3950X? And what makes the difference?

3950X offers solid performance for gaming, while 5900X CPUs face availability challenges because of stock problems. The 16-core CPU could be a more reliable choice.

Find the 5900x configuration when both CPUs are similar in cost. The performance boost from moving from 3rd Gen Ryzen to 4th Gen Ryzen (5000 series) is significant, more than compensating for losing four cores. It mainly benefits gaming, though you may notice slightly longer render times for videos. Ultimately, it depends on your priorities.
