Play Halo 1 and 2, SWAT 3 (it’s more about gameplay than story), and if you own a PS2, give Time Splitters a shot.

He thinks Prey offers an excellent narrative and visuals—worth looking at during a Steam discount.

Referenced it again in the initial comment—ME stands for Mass Effect.

Have you tried Singularity? It feels a bit like Bioshock but with some Metro elements. I liked it when it was released. It’s from 2010—kind of old now, but I understand.

Considering Deus Ex or Hitman, there are some excellent titles in those franchises. If you enjoy Metro 2033, it’s likely you’ve also played Metro Last Light, though it’s a solid option if you haven’t yet.

FPS will really restrict your options. You might want to go through all the old games like DOOM, Quake, Duke Nukem, Serious Sam, and Turok. Or try some RPGs if you're looking for a story.

Play KONA, it’s primarily a puzzle game, though you eventually obtain a gun once you locate it. Unfortunately, you’re limited to killing wolves that approach you. Despite this, the storytelling and narrative are truly impressive.

Timesplitters 1 and 2 offer entertainment without a traditional story, though their plots aren't particularly engaging. TS FP appears to deliver a more compelling narrative than its predecessors.
