I just acquired some components—Ryzen 7 7700X and a 3070 Ti—for significantly discounted prices on eBay. Both have been verified with a friend’s pre-built bench and function perfectly. I’m a bit concerned about sourcing a motherboard, especially given the issues with AM5 stock boards. I appreciate the design of some MSI models and their BIOS flashback feature, so would it be safe to purchase one after updating it? It’s been a while since I assembled a PC, and I’d rather avoid any complications and overspending. My budget caps at $300 for the motherboard, though I’m willing to stretch that if it means better value later. I prefer DDR5 support and need decent Wi-Fi performance plus at least two M.2 slots. An ATX build with solid power delivery would be ideal, but I’m open to a more practical setup if it saves money. Also, any advice on selecting a PSU would be helpful—this build is expected to draw a lot of power, so I’d like something modular under $170. Some AM5 boards designed for 3 B650 models support up to 7950x without issues
I favor the Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX with under 300 USB ports. It boasts great reviews and a solid design. The motherboard includes four M.2 slots, with the first running at Gen5 and the next three at Gen4. The only drawback is the PCI slot is Gen4, though I don’t anticipate GPUs fully utilizing that speed for years to come. Currently, only the 4090 model comes close to filling a Gen4 slot, while lower-end cards in this series still work fine on Gen3. B650 pg lightning, Aorus Elite, Tomahawk, and B650E Steel Legend/PG Riptide are solid choices near $200.
The only AM5 board without a flashback and in ITX size is available to overlook. All AM5 models support DDR5 which removes that concern. MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI costs $180 and fulfills your needs except for the dragon branding. The MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI is also an option but priced at $240 and white in color.
