Looking for alternative mounting solutions for your 90c CPU?
Board: ASUS Prime x570-Pro CPU model Ryzen 5 5600x Cooler Lian Li GA240A Galahad 240 Silver AIO I'm currently around 70°C in BIOS and usually hit about 90°C during games. I've assembled two identical setups, both experiencing significant overheating. All fans and the pump seem to be working as best I can observe. It seems this has been the case since I installed them, though I didn't notice problems until recently (still minor at the moment). I transferred the CPU onto one machine and it improved performance enough to avoid game issues, but 90°C is still quite high. My main thought is that the poor two-point mounting might be the problem—it's likely not delivering sufficient pressure evenly. Still, I'm open to other ideas and want to know: can I find a better mounting solution for this hardware?
RMA might be an alternative option. You can look for Wraith Prism at a lower price and try it out before ordering a replacement. It could help determine if the problem lies with the mounting or the AIO itself. Have you experimented with another paste or a different batch? I’ve noticed Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut losing effectiveness quickly, while NT-H2 showed issues after a week, possibly due to temperature sensitivity.
Thanks for your response. It's disappointing not being able to enhance the mounting setup. I assume I'm well beyond the RMA process (purchased in December 2020), but I can still look into it. I hope I caught it sooner. After setting up those two systems, I relocated and bought a home. Right now, I can't justify swapping it for something similar—especially not matching the white look. It's out of my budget. I have three different TC brands from when I originally acquired the components. I believe I reused the Noctua brand. I might try a budget air cooler and fresh paste, hoping for the best. My wife jokes that I have an uncanny knack for getting refunds past warranty, so I'll give RMA another shot.
The item at the lower right corner of the picture shows the placement I have for the H and J. No matter how hard I try, I can't install them further than their current position. >_<
I swapped the AIO for an air cooler. It’s clearly adding a lot more strain on the CPU. Temperatures are now much better—around 40°C when idle, 60°C during games. It’s a regret I had two Galahad units and both are having problems. I’ll avoid this again.
