Hey there, it's been a while since I was around here. We just relocated and our new internet service needs phone support for the modem. My old setup was an Aaris Surfboard SB6183, and we're paying around 100mbps (roughly 100 Mbps down, 5 Mbps up). I'm looking for good modems in the $40 to $100 range that can really make the most of our plan. Gaming isn't a priority anymore—mostly I've shifted to coding now, though my younger sibling still plays games from time to time.

It's an odd thought to look for an ISP that sells a modem. The benefit of this internet service is you can upgrade the modem at no cost if needed or simply switch to a more recent version.

We are currently leasing the modem from the ISP, but my mom is interested in purchasing one, and we don’t have to debate—just a shrug.

You have two choices: 1) Purchase a modem and retain the ISP box for voice-only use, as some US providers like Spectrum allow this. 2) Inform your mom that buying a modem with VOIP features won't work and she won't understand.

We chose Xfinity and faced issues (poor support), and for the other option, it came too late—I already searched and didn’t find any modems within the budget.

To save costs, consider switching to a limited data plan such as 30 GB monthly. Explore USB modems and use a computer with an attached USB modem for internet access. However, this might require changing your ISP again.

Because most ISP's in the US charge rental fees. You need what is called an eMTA. Here's the deal. You need to review your ISP's supported device list. Comcast my ISP are VERY particular about eMTA's. So much so if you get the wrong one, yeah it will most likely work for Internet, but they will NOT provision phone service to it.

Absolutely, those options don't look feasible.
