I’m also evaluating the drive, thinking about its age and the fact that hard drives have limited lifespan. I’m building a custom board that’s nearly working, and I need to switch it to SSDs. I know it’ll take some time, but I’m pretty sure the RAM will be faulty and I should look for a replacement.

What operating system are you using? It seems like older hardware, such as a DDR1 system, even the fastest Athlon 64 X2 won't perform well beyond Windows 7 or any system that doesn't connect to the internet. Running at 512MB is manageable for XP and usually smooth.

The primary goal was to reuse it once valuable data was removed, followed by a clean erase and fresh start
