Looking for a suitable motherboard for your AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
I was looking for a processor and discovered a big discount on an AMD Ryzen 9 5900X. It came from a reliable place and is well-liked in my country. While searching for compatible motherboards, I kept encountering issues with the PCPartPicker site, possibly due to a BIOS update. What am I looking for? I need a good motherboard that supports the Ryzen 9 5900X with BIOS version 2607. I’d appreciate it if I could avoid anything too complicated since I’m not very tech-savvy.
Choose a B550 or X570 board. The main distinction is that B550 offers PCIe 4.0 only on the CPU lanes, whereas X570 includes it on the chipset lanes too. This mainly affects expandability or storage options; for a straightforward build, B550 suffices. The warning from PCPartPicker likely refers to a BIOS update. Both chipsets were available before the Ryzen 5000 series launched. Most should work out of the box with the new series, but an older AM4 CPU or a flashback-compatible board might be needed if the system hasn’t been updated recently. If it lacks flashback and you don’t have an older CPU, you can reach out to AMD—they’ll provide a compatible CPU for applying the update.
