Looking for a router that supports 1Gbps speeds for your home network.
I think you're talking about router throughput. That's how well a router handles a fast WAN link and actually sends that speed to your network devices. Much of it depends on the router's hardware (CPU and memory). Physical connections also matter since a 1gb Ethernet port can't go beyond its limits. The site Dong Knows Tech has shared some throughput data before, but I couldn't find the specific posts. Tweaktown also lists these numbers. Refer to the attached graph. Source: https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/9579/n...index.html With my configuration I have a 1gb fiber connection. It connects to a 1gb WAN port on my router (Netgear RAX120). The router links to a 10gb switch (Netgear XS508M) through its 5gb LAN port (note the 5gb port can serve both LAN and WAN). From the switch I have several computers, and each shows the full speed the router can provide—about 940mb per download. The router includes a built-in speed test, so the same result appears on the devices too. Lower-end models might struggle with a full 1gb link, especially if they're handling extra tasks like NAS storage, Plex, or QoS settings. It's definitely worth checking if your router is applying any QoS rules, as that can noticeably affect performance. On the other hand, most consumer routers don't offer more than one high-speed port. You really enter the SMB market for alternatives.
