I have no price limits and envision a high-end setup around the R9 3950X right now. I’m aiming for a workstation that lets me enjoy most games with top graphics and smooth frame rates. An alternative is a dual-board system pairing a Trino 3990X with a Quadro and an i9 9900KS paired with an 2080Ti. With this setup, all devices stay connected and storage is unified. I’ll also add a capture card to the workstation so I can stream games for optimal performance.
For work: I'm unsure right now, but I'll be handling engineering simulations and other tasks for streaming. That's probably about it.
You can use just one threadripper setup. The CPU is more than sufficient compared to older generations, handling games like a 3900x in many titles. A secondary system isn't really needed. With the ability to handle multiple cores, you can simply encode everything into the same system. This eliminates a lot of hassle with additional setups. It doesn't offer the highest FPS, but it's more than enough for a satisfying experience.
