Looking for a good budget setup of MBO, CPU, and RAM?
He often finds parts online, but most searches came up with few answers. My uncle mixed together components from his son’s PC upgrade—I attempted to use an old LGA 775 motherboard, CPU, and RAM, but it’s unreliable and freezes frequently. It doesn’t seem worth the effort. (I’m sure memory is a better choice) In any case, he mostly spends time browsing the internet, so I haven’t used AMD much except for basic budget builds. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks everyone.
It depends on the budget you're aiming for... Are your components DDR2? Those systems are affordable but tend to lose performance over time, so they might not be ideal if your budget isn't very tight. If you opt for DDR3, you could consider entry-level Haswell (fourth generation) and use an H81 or B85 motherboard.
The sticks are DDR2, but it doesn’t seem worth recycling them into an older platform. I first looked for a replacement board thinking that was the issue, but it turned out to be a hassle and not as affordable as expected. Now I’m considering building one myself: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz Quad-Core, Asus PRIME B450M-A/CSM Micro ATX AM4 board, plus some budget RAM. Around $250 CDN should cover the cost, and it would give me enough time to browse and multitask.
